I'm going to be leading a photo walk in Newport Beach, which I am really excited for. Its coming up tomorrow, Saturday October 13th from 5:15pm till 7:30pm followed by dinner at a Mexican food place. Its free to join. You don't need to have a professional dSLR or other camera gear. Point n shoot or any photo capable smartphone is great as well.
I checked out the area before hand and some of the photos that I made follow.
I think as photographers we are lonely people. We don't see people who think like us everyday. So this photo walk would a great opportunity for everyone to make new friends who think alike. And at the end of the day, we can all learn from each other. Its a great socializing experience.
We will be meeting near the Balboa Fun Zone Ferris Wheel / Auto Ferry area at 5pm. Be sure to be there early since we will be starting the walk at 5:15pm.
Parking is a bit of a hassle in that area. There is free parking near the residential area but it would take forever to find a spot and it might not be close by to where we are going to be walking. My preferred parking spot would be the one next to the Balboa Pier (entrance is on Palm St.). It costs $1.50 per hour. There is also a music fest going on in a park by the beach and thus parking can become a problem even when they have their own special parking. I would pay for at least 4 hours considering you would be arriving a bit early and leaving after having dinner at Cabo Cantina. Photo walk should end at 7:30pm and thats when we meet up at Cabo Cantina.
We will first take the ferry and go to Balboa Island and some photography over there. After returning, we will walk around the Balboa Fun Zone area. This should take slightly less than an hour. We will then proceed towards the beach. There is a whole bunch of stuff to do there. Last when I visited the area, they had some games and stuff going on at the beach. Looked pretty fun! From the beach, you can make photos of the pier from either side. You can have a walk on the pier and make some photos there.
I highly recommend bringing a tripod since we will also be photographing after the sun sets. You can make beautiful long exposure photos during the blue hour (time period after sunset).
Above all, I just want you to have fun and socialize with each other. See it is an opportunity to make new friends. And if you have any questions, you could always ask me during the walk or online.
Looking forward to tomorrow’s walk!
